Diwali 2024: Know How the Diyas Were Counted at Ayodhya's Record-Setting Deepotsav
Ayodhya was transformed into a breathtaking spectacle on Wednesday as it gleamed with the light of 25,12,585 diyas along the banks of the Saryu river in two world-record setting feats during the eighth edition of Deepotsav on Diwali eve.
This was the first Deepotsav since the consecration of the Ram Lalla temple on January 22, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath leading the celebrations
The records that were set were for the largest display of oil lamps and most number of people performing an aarti simultaneously, representatives of the Guinness World Records declared in the evening.
“This is the first festival of lights after 500 years, after our beloved Lord Shri Ramlala has been re-installed in his grand temple.
This divine and magnificent form of Shri Ayodhya Dham, illuminated with a wonderful and supernatural aura, is making all of us feel the Treta Yuga.
Today Ayodhya is happy, entire India is proud.
Hearty congratulations and salutations to all Ram devotees participating in ‘Deepotsav 2024’! Hail Lord Ram!” Adityanath said in a post on X.
In another post, which was shared by Modi as well, the chief minister said, “On the auspicious occasion of ‘Deepotsav-2024’, ‘Rammay’ Shri Ayodhya Dham has once again set a world record for lighting the maximum number of lamps, and has hailed the Sanatan culture by lighting more than 25 lakh lamps.
”
How Were the Diyas Counted?
Nischal Barul, a consultant for the Guinness World Records team, explained to Local18 how the diyas were counted to confirm the record.
He stated that the counting process involves three methods and the world record team arrives four days before the attempt.
Initially, the unlit diyas are counted, which is referred to as a trial or dry count.
Then, as the diyas are lit, they are counted digitally using software applications.
Finally, drones are employed for an aerial count, and the results are released after all three counts are completed.
Double Records Set in Ayodhya
Barul further noted that this time, two world records have been established in Ayodhya, including the record for collective Saryu aarti, which was unique in its execution.
“This is the first time someone has attempted this method.
Ayodhya has been making history by lighting the maximum number of lamps for the past seven years.
The previous record of lighting 22.
23 lakh lamps simultaneously has been broken, as 25.
12 lakh lamps were lit in Ayodhya yesterday,” he added.
Houses throughout the city also shone brightly, adding to the festival’s breath-taking beauty as 500 drones, laser lights, cultural programmes and tableaux on Ramayana took the celebrations to unprecedented levels.
