Australian PM proposes min age of 16 on social media

Australian PM Anthony Albanese has said a legislation will be presented next week in parliament banning those under 16 from social media.

The ban would apply to minors already on social media, and parental consent will not matter.

The legislation puts Australia at the forefront of regulating social media access for children.

It will put the onus on social media platforms such as Meta, Google, Tiktok and X to enforce the new regulation.
