Manchester City May Make Transfer Offer For Barcelona Youngster Pau Cubarsi, According To Reports
Manchester City are understood to have found a new face to bolster their defensive unit.
It has been learnt that the reigning Premier League champions are interested in signing young Spanish centre-back Pau Cubarsi.
A report published by Fichajes claimed that Manchester City are planning to shell out €70 million to complete the signing of Cubarsi.
The article went on to claim that the board of Manchester City have been in contact with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and they would be interested in offering a large amount of money to acquire the services of the youngster.
The article claimed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has set his sights on the teenager who possesses great defensive skills which are suitable to the Spaniard’s strategies.
Cubarsi has been one of La Masia’s finest breakout talents in recent times.
He has already cemented his spot in Barcelona’s defence.
The 17-year-old’s brilliant defensive performances as a central defender have reportedly caught the eye of many, triggering speculations of his big transfer away to England.
Cubarsi recently made his eighth successive start in all competitions for Barcelona this season.
Overall, he has made 11 starts out of 12 LaLiga games so far this season and has excelled as part of the Catalan giants’ defensive line.
In his latest appearance, Cubarsi was up against Espanyol in the LaLiga.
Against Espanyol, Dani Olmo scored a brace and Robert Lewandowski netted one goal to guide Barcelona to a 3-1 win.
Espanyol had two of their goals ruled out by VAR for offside.
While talking about it, Cubarsi said that Barcelona try to play with a “high defensive line” to catch opponents offside.
“We always try to play with a high defensive line to catch our opponents offside.
It’s risky, but we have to do it.
When the VAR reviews it, we know it’s offside”, Cubarsi said after the game, as per Football Espana.
Cubarsi is next expected to be in action in the midweek Champions League fixture against Red Star Belgrade, scheduled to be played on Thursday, November 7.
In the LaLiga, Barcelona currently hold the spot with 33 points from 12 games.
