Manipur Violence: 2 Dead, 4 Still Missing In Jiribam Clash Amid Ethnic Tensions

In a tragic development from Manipurs Jiribam district, two men were discovered deceased on Tuesday morning, following a fierce encounter that led to the death of 10 militants the previous day.

The individuals identified as Laishram Balen and Maibam Kesho were found amidst the ruins in the Jakuradhor Karong area, a site of destruction where militants had ignited fires in several shops on Monday.

This incident prompted the Jiribam district administration to enforce prohibitory orders to prevent further violence.

In the wake of the encounter, a shutdown was observed from 5 am on Tuesday in areas predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community in the hills.

This was in protest against the deaths of the suspected insurgents during a clash with security forces.

The deceased militants, who were donned in camouflage outfits and equipped with advanced weaponry, reportedly launched an indiscriminate attack on a local police station and a neighbouring CRPF camp in Jiribam, resulting in injuries to two CRPF personnel.

Efforts to Trace Missing IndividualsFollowing the violent confrontation, it was reported that three women and three children were unaccounted for.

IGP (operations) I K Muivah stated, The security forces are carrying out operations to trace the missing people.
