Timothee Chalamet Recalls The Time When An Agent Asked Him ‘To Put On Weight’
Timothée Chalamet has opened up about how his weight made it difficult for him to sign some Hollywood projects.
The actor is credited with a range of artistic and versatile movies including Wonka, Dune, Call Me By Your Name, Little Women and Beautiful Boy.
However, in the initial years of his career, when Chalamet wanted to audition for films like The Maze Runner or Divergent, an agent asked him to put on some weight as according to him, Chalamet did not possess “ the right body” type.
Chalamet, who is promoting his upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, has talked about the experience in an interview with Zane Lowe.
Timothée Chalamet revealed that he finds resonance with the legendary musician Bob Dylan when it comes to being an outsider and typecast for certain roles.
Chalamet said, “I’ve had a life experience, I don’t want to say it’s weird, but I can relate to some of these things he went through.
Bob wanted to be a rock & roll star — Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley — that was the sort of, depending on your point of view, the sort of rice crispy pop, rock & roll music that was saturated and marketed to kids in the late ’50s.
Equally, I wanted to be a big movie actor.
”
Timothée Chalamet added, “But if I auditioned for The Maze Runner or Divergent — things of that variety that were popping when I was coming up — the feedback was always like, ‘Oh, you don’t have the right body.
I had an agent that called me and said, ‘You got to put on weight,’ basically, not aggressively, but you know.
”
Eventually, Timothée Chalamet entered into “very personalised movies” which worked brilliantly for the 28-year-old.
He revealed finding a “rhythm”, “confidence” and “flow” with these types of movies.
“For (Bob Dylan), it was folk music … Those were smaller budgets but very — I don’t know how else to put it — personable movies that started in this theatre space,” he said.
Coming to A Complete Unknown, the biopic is directed by James Mangold.
The project also stars Elle Fanning, Edward Norton, Scoot McNairy, Boyd Holbrook and Monica Barbaro.
A Complete Unknown will hit the silver screens on December 25.
