Vikrant Massey Reveals Disappointment Over Bablu’s Death In Mirzapur: ‘I Had A Different Plan In My Head’
Vikrant Massey captivated audiences with his portrayal of Bablu Pandit in the popular series Mirzapur.
Bablu quickly became a fan favorite, leaving a lasting impression, though his character was shockingly killed off by the end of Season 1.
In a recent conversation, Vikrant admitted he was “disappointed” when he discovered Bablu’s fate, explaining that he wasn’t aware of the full story arc before signing on.
Due to some miscommunication, he didn’t know his character would only appear in the first season.
In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Vikrant shared, “I was a little disappointed when my character was killed because I had a different plan in my head.
That was a massive learning for me, because post that, I make sure that I read the script till the last word or I don’t sign the contract until I know what I am asked to do.
There was a minor miscommunication.
Because it’s a longer format, the writing process is tedious and it goes on while you are shooting.
”
He further explained, “I signed on Mirzapur as I share a great rapport with the show’s production house, Excel Entertainment.
They were kind enough to cast me in Dil Dhadakne Do.
I thought that Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani took a chance on me when nobody was.
I verbally said yes and I signed the contract after reading the script for 6 episodes.
Then when I read the script of the later episodes, I was like, ‘Uh oh.
’ They told me, ‘We thought you read them?’ I said, ‘When we signed I don’t think I was given the last two episodes.
’ That was the miscommunication, and I should have been a little more careful.
”
Vikrant also reminisced about the huge fan reaction after Mirzapur’s release, sharing an incident from a film set that highlights the impact of his character.
“I was in Lucknow shooting for Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi.
At midnight, Mirzapur went live.
I went to shoot the film in the morning at 7am and by the time I wrapped up the day’s shoot and was leaving at 7 pm, there were hundreds of people at the gate.
In those 17-18 hours half of Lucknow had seen Mirzapur and somehow they got to know that Bablu bhaiya is shooting here and they came to the film’s set.
It was phenomenal,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, Vikrant is set to appear in The Sabarmati Report, a film inspired by the events surrounding the Godhra train burning incident involving the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002.
