Why Huma Qureshi Rejected 2 Lead Films With 'Popular' Social Media Stars
Huma Qureshi, popular for her powerful performances in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Dedh Ishqiya and Badlapur, recently shared insights about her career in the film industry.
She revealed that she turned down a two-lead film due to inadequate pay and concerns over her co-actor’s lack of experience.
Huma also stressed that while social media popularity might make someone a household name, it doesn’t necessarily translate into a strong audience for a film or show.
Without taking the names, the actress during a conversation with India Today said, “I was given a role in a film with two leads.
I declined since the other actor, while well-known, lacked the same amount of experience on streaming as I do.
”
The actress further clarified that while she was open to taking on the role, it was important for her that her character was given equal importance and not overshadowed by her co-actor’s part.
The Jolly LLB 2 actress further explained that at this stage in her career, she refuses to make compromises.
Despite the makers assuring her that the film featured two lead roles, Huma Qureshi stood firm on her expectations for higher remuneration, given her experience.
When an agreement couldn’t be reached, she ultimately decided to walk away from the project.
“Just because this other individual is seen as popular because she has a ‘X’ number of followers or higher, does not ensure that your show or film will be watched,” Huma said while revealing that the project was for an OTT platform.
Additionally, the actress shared that she approaches such situations with honesty and respect, making it a point to communicate without arrogance.
On the work front, Huma was recently seen in the second season of the psychological thriller web series Mithya.
Directed by Kapil Sharma, the series also starred Naveen Kasthuria, Anandita Bose, and Rushad Rana in key roles.
It is currently streaming on the OTT platform Zee5.
Apart from this, the actress also has Jolly LLB 3 alongside Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in her lineup.
Additionally, she will be seen in director Vipul Mehta’s Gulabi, where she plays the role of an auto-rickshaw driver, and the investigative drama Bayaan.
